Bogotá (D. C.)

Bogota, Bogotá Distrito Capital officially (DC) is the capital city of the Republic of Colombia and the department of Cundinamarca. Capital District is organized as unitary and decentralized, enjoying autonomy in the management of their interests within the limits of the Constitution and the law. Consists of 20 locations and is the administrative and political center of the country.

It is located in central Colombia, in the area known as the Sabana de Bogotá, which in turn is part of the Altiplano Cundiboyacense, semi-plateau (as it is irregular and classifies more as a seismic depression) at the Eastern Cordillera , branch of the Cordillera de los Andes. According to census data in 2005, Bogotá has a population of 6,776,009 inhabitants, while its metropolitan area (not officially established, but existing de facto) has 7,881,156 people. Reach out to occupy more than 33 km from south to north and 16 km from east to west, giving a high density in its territory.

As the capital, home to the most senior bodies of the executive branch (Casa de Nariño), legislative (Congress of Colombia) and judicial (Supreme Court, Constitutional Court, Council of State and the Superior Council of Magistrates). In the economic sphere stands as an important economic and industrial center.

Bogota D. C. is the largest and most populous city in the country, besides being the cultural, industrial, economic and tourism [9] Colombia's most important and one of the major Latin American [citation needed]. The important cultural offer is represented in many museums, theaters and libraries, some of which are the largest in the country. It is also home to major festivals with wide experience and national and international recognition. It also highlights the academic activity, as some of the most important Colombian universities are located in the city. It is noteworthy that UNESCO awarded the city the title of World Book Capital for 2007.
